What are 3 tips for choosing the right bathroom tile flooring?
1. Begin with design inspiration. Do you want your bathroom to be modern? Traditional? Rustic? Starting with the overall design you want to achieve will help you eliminate a lot of tile choices that don’t fit with your vision.
2. Consider the size of the floor. Larger tiles can help a small or narrow space look larger.
3. Factor in your budget. Beautiful selections of tile come at any price point. Eyeing tile that seems out of your budget? With a smaller floor, it may be an option, because you don’t need as much material as you do in a kitchen.
With options ranging from ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone, people often want to know what is best in the bathroom – a room that gets a lot of traffic and moisture. Jill Polniak, Shaw Floors Tile Specialist – Mid-Atlantic Region, told us, “In a residential application, ceramic or porcelain would both be a great option. Once installed, it is nearly impossible to tell the difference. They are both durable, waterproof and are easy to maintain. Natural stone tile or natural stone mosaics are also a beautiful option, allowing for a high-end decorative look, however, will require more maintenance.”
What tiles are best for backsplashes in the bathroom?
By now, we know tile is not just for flooring! Shower walls are a great place to incorporate fashion-forward designs with tile. Another option is the wall behind the sink, which is often done in the kitchen but is an option in the bathroom as well. “Long and narrow, plank sized tiles or other interesting patterns allow for a creative feature to the overall bathroom design. Smooth or glossy tiles for walls are also popular, as they are easy to keep clean,” explained Jill.
Are there any bathroom tile trends are happening?
Bathrooms are becoming more high-tech, with everything from heated floors to voice-activated showers. As far as aesthetics go, clean designs and soft colors are still sought after. “White marble continues to be a classic design, however, cleaner and softer visuals are in high demand. Many people are choosing to incorporate that, along with interesting wall tiles, mosaics or encaustics,” Jill told us.
How can a tile floor be personalized?
With endless colors, textures, and sizes, finding tile floor that speaks to you is definitely attainable – matter what your style is. But for those who want to go a step further, you have the option to get creative with grout. By switching up the width or color of grout lines, you can create a brand new look.
