The Hope House Highlights

The Hope House Highlights

You voted to name it The Hope House back in November.

As we sit in Texas for the reveal, we can’t help but reflect on the past few months. We embarked on a whole new journey, collaborating on our first St. Jude Dream Home Showplace with builders Pitman Custom Homes and Magruder Homes in Bryan-College Station, Texas.

Before we move on to what is coming next, we want to go through some of our highlights for this special home. A home that has already brought hope to so many people.

Your Votes

This home was different for us for many reasons. We typically renovate homes in Connecticut, making every decision together and seeing every step of progress in person. The Hope House is a brand new house, built on what used to be an empty lot. While we have been out to Texas a few times throughout the process, we have watched most of the progress from afar.

Now, on our last trip to Texas for this home, we are seeing the finished home, complete with all of your votes, in person for the first time. Here is a recap of all the winning votes for The Hope House (and don’t worry – we will be sharing photos of the finished home this week!):

The Team

The Hope House team

We first met the Pitmans and the Magruders during our groundbreaking trip in October 2018. Both builders consist of a husband and wife team who worked throughout the process to finalize details, connect with the St. Jude team, incorporate the winning votes, and keep the timeline of the build on track.

During our February trip to Texas, we met up at The Hope House to view the layout of the house and sign the studs. This fundraising event allowed people who donated to put their homes on the studs of the brand new house, both virtually and in person. In March, we got to learn more about the Pitmans and Magruders with some car karaoke and a progress update on the house.

The only way to make a project of this magnitude work is through constant communication and people who go above and beyond. We have loved working with the incredible people at St. Jude, Pitman Custom Homes, Magruder Homes, and all the sponsors of the build.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Challenges arise when collaborating on a home over 1,600 miles away. So why did we agree? The opportunity to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital while doing what we love is something we couldn’t pass up.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is centered around finding cures for childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. With the help of donations, St. Jude is able to provide treatment, travel, housing and food at no cost to families. Through their groundbreaking work, St. Jude changes the lives of children and families every day.

Generous sponsors and donations allow for ALL proceeds from the sale of the home to go directly to St. Jude, so that the children and families can focus on healing. Every single person who worked on this house have contributed to something bigger – and we are honored to have been a part of it.
