Don’t Underestimate Outdoor Entertaining Spaces

With a taste of warmer weather here in Connecticut and the completion of The Hope House set for the end of April, we can’t wait to see what the outdoor living space at the St. Jude Dream Home Showplace will look like when finished.

Outdoor entertaining spaces are synonymous with summertime fun. (Although, in Texas, they can be used for the majority of the year.) Early morning on the front porch sipping coffee, an afternoon bar-b-que in the backyard, or an evening gathered around a fire pit are all made more special with a well designed outdoor living space.

We can’t give you the details yet about The Hope House outdoor space yet, but we CAN share some of our favorite features of outdoor entertaining areas.

Colorful and Comfortable

Outdoor furniture does not have to be uncomfortable. As long as you are mindful of the weather, you can enjoy furniture with comfortable cushions and pillows. Your outdoor living space is also an area where you can take risks with color and design, opting for bold and bright colors.

Upgrade Your Campfire

Nothing creates an ambiance like a summer evening by the fire. Both firepits and outdoor fireplaces come in a variety of styles and sizes, giving you options to fit your design, space, and budget.

Take Your Cookout to the Next Level

An outdoor living space isn’t complete without a place to grill and enjoy a meal al fresco. We love any type of grill, but a custom built-in grilling station takes outdoor dining to the next level. For the ultimate experience, go for a full outdoor kitchen with a fridge, sink, countertop space, and even a beer tap.

Create Distinct Spaces

Use different levels to create distinct spaces in your outdoor living area. A dining table can be on a deck, with stairs leading to a patio lounging area. If your outdoor space is all one level, you can generate designated areas. Grass, stone, brick, mulch, and even outdoor rugs can create clear-cut entertaining or lounging spaces.

Make the most of your Covered Space

A covered outdoor space is a fantastic way to get fresh air while staying in the shade and out of any rainstorms that come in the heat of summer. You can make the most of these covered areas by mounting a TV, installing ceiling fans and lighting fixtures, and putting in a built-in grill or fireplace.

Outdoor entertaining areas extend the living space from inside your home to your property. The same thought and attention can go into how you design your outdoor living space, making it comfortable, inviting, and an enjoyable place to spend time with loved ones.
